Tourists who are going to visit the National Parks during Holy Week will not be able to enter single-use plastics

National Natural Parks made a call to Colombians who are willing to visit andthese sites during Holy Week, to contribute to their conservation and the protection of the ecosystems of the protected areas.

The damage caused by single-use plastic seriously affects the existence of thousands of species of fauna and flora, natural and cultural heritage of the country.

The director of National Natural Parks, Orlando Molano Pérezrecalled that the entry of single-use plastics into these areas is prohibited.

“The life of our species in the mountains and seas is in danger, it is vital that visitors do not bring to our parks: straws, mixers, containers, plastic bags and cutlery, among other single-use plastics,” said Molano.

Travelers during their visits they must carry what is strictly necessary in cloth bags, use thermos and reusable containers.

The amount of waste accumulated in protected areas increases year after year and hence the need to apply self-control measures.

One of the most important seasons in our country is approaching, such as Easteropportunity to know, value and protect our 21 national parks, open to ecotourism, without carrying single-use plastics,” he recalled.

The National Natural Parks of Colombia offer various alternatives to enjoy the outdoors such as: bird and whale watching, mountaineering, hiking, diving, camping, taxiing, rock climbing, meditation, among others.

According to the National Planning Department55% of the country’s coastal municipalities dispose of their solid waste in landfills, 8% in transitory cells, 26% in open-air dumps and 8% directly dump their waste into natural water, which later becomes marine litter.
