With the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera, the launch of the Uruguayan Rein Test Championship was held this Thursday. The objective of the equestrian competition is to reaffirm the values of the country family beyond work, through sport and communication with the horse. The president pointed out the importance of the event and the championship from the tourist point of view as a milestone for the country.
The event, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism, was also attended by the Undersecretary of Education and Culture, Ana Ribeiro, and the members of Rienderos del Uruguay, Jorge Martínez and Martín Duque.
In his oratory, Viera highlighted the traditional, sporting, cultural and social values of this sport, which calls for domestic and regional tourism.
Likewise, he stressed the importance of the decentralization of events throughout the country, which will culminate in a grand final, which will be held at the Rural del Prado on December 11. “It is the opportunity to see the skill of the animal, the riders and trainers, in a purely sporting event, which has nothing to do with mistreatment or gambling,” he said.
For her part, Ribeiro, in her capacity as president of the Equestrian Affairs Commission of the Ministry of Education and Culture, underlined the magnitude of holding the launch at the Ministry of Tourism, since it is a competition that mobilizes many people in the country throughout the year.
In that sense, he mentioned the qualities of equines and the value of the animal, especially in the field. “Even the most modest of the countrymen dresses in his best clothes and grooms the pingo to go to town,” he said.
This championship takes place annually throughout Uruguay and is competed in three categories: beginners, youth and seniors. In addition, you can intervene with horses of all kinds, without distinction of breed, in a test of skill and speed, in which you zigzag between five tanks. The national champion will win a fully furnished prefab cabin valued at $25,000.
