Tourism entrepreneurs from Bonao call attention to President Abinader

Empresarios turísticos de Bonao llaman atención al Presidente Abinader

They say Indhri abandoned her jobs and today her properties may collapse

LOS ARROCES, BONAO.- Businessmen from the tourism sector of this province called on President Luis Abinader to order the immediate continuation by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhri) of a gabion wall that is being built on the Masipedro River in the Los Arroces community, which has been paralyzed for several months.

Alfonso Almonte and Heriberto Aquino, 50 and 56 years old respectively, said that a year ago, the Indhri began the construction of a gabion wall, of which only about 100 meters were built, but on the side where there is a restaurant called “Balneario Don Lorenzo”, with the promise that the same would also be built on the other side.

However, after the restaurant was completed, the work was halted without any response being given to them or the community.

They indicated that due to this situation several of the tourist villas in the area are running a serious risk, since the waters of this tributary are gradually penetrating into their land.

They pointed out that as a consequence of the abandonment of the work, ravines are already forming that endanger the very lives of both national and international tourists who, taking advantage of the vegetation and the good climate, choose the area as their vacation destinations and to spend pleasant moments with their families.

The businessmen indicated that they have communicated many times with the engineer who claims to be the head of the contracting firm, José Jiménez Bloise, but this only He repeatedly tells them that the problem will be resolved next week, and it’s been more than 4 months now and they are still waiting.

“The project plans to divert the river on this side, and we did not oppose it, since when we met with the construction company, they told us that this way side “A wall was going to be built to protect our villas, however, they came, they built about 100 meters of gabion walls but on the other side and it is still the date after more than 4 months that they have abandoned us and we call and call Mr. Leonardo Then and engineer José Jiménez Bloise, who are the ones who represent the construction firm and they only tell us that they will come next week, and that week no matter how much we have insisted, they do not arrive, in addition, they do not even pick up our calls anymore,” they said.

In this regard, they indicated that what they have done has been in good faith, but the authorities have betrayed them, since even though they have the land to divert the river, claiming that when heavy downpours occur the communities downstream are flooded, the Indhri authorities have abandoned them to their fate, where their investments are on the verge of collapse.

“In addition to the meters of land that we have given up for the construction of a wall that is not finished, what’s more, on this side it has not even been started, in addition to that, the river has already eaten up part of our land, and every day that passes, every time it’s raining and the river brings water, it eats more and more, there are times that it reaches the swimming pools of our villages, and that is an injustice that is being committed against us,” they said.
