Tocumen International Airport increases passenger traffic in May

The Tocumen International Airport registered the traffic of 1,304,604 passengers during the month of May, which represents 703,326 more travelers compared to the same month of the year 2021.

Until May, the level of passengers was significant, so Tocumen SA expects the flow of travelers through its terminals to recover faster than previously expected.

Raffoul Arab, General Manager of Tocumen International Airport, said: “We are observing that the pace of recovery is accelerating, although the industry is still cautious, due to an environment marked by the pandemic, in addition to wars and their impact on oil prices.”

“The full opening of Terminal 2 is another element that will strengthen our regional and global competitive position,” Arab said.

Destinations and markets

Regarding international connections, in the month of May Tocumen increased direct routes to 78 destinations, through 20 commercial airlines that offer services to the main cities of America and Europe.

It indicates that of the total number of passengers who used the Tocumen terminal, 76% were connecting passengers.

According to data provided by the Department of Statistics of the Tocumen International Airport, the markets with the best regional performance in May were South America with 46%, followed by North America with 29%, the Caribbean with 11%, while Central America contributed with 9%, and European markets contributed a 5% share.

Meanwhile, during the month of May 2022, 11,223 aircraft arrival and takeoff operations were carried out.

For its part, domestic traffic in the regional terminals managed by the Tocumen International Airport registered 16,923 travelers and 1,610 aircraft operations in May.

As part of the economic reactivation plan, on June 22, 2002, operations will be fully opened in the new Terminal 2 of Tocumen and then the Panama Pacific Terminal will be reopened for low-cost airlines.
