The province of Tierra del Fuego does not registered coronavirus cases for the third consecutive week, at the same time that the district does not have people hospitalized or studying the disease andor there have been deaths due to Covid-19 since the end of September, confirmed official sources from the Fuegian Ministry of Health.
The health authorities recognized in the last hours the appearance of an imported case, corresponding to “a crew member of the Crystal Endeavor cruise ship”, which arrived in the city of Ushuaia on November 17.
This person was taken off the ship in the capital of Tierra del Fuego in the middle of a protocol that included swabs to all passengers and other crew members, suffered the disease in isolation and “was discharged last Saturday,” said the spokesmen of the provincial government, to through a press release.
In turn, this week a “Suspicious case” in the municipality of Tolhuin, which is “pending confirmation,” added the authorities.
According to the report, the last death from coronavirus in the province occurred on September 27, while for the eighth consecutive week there are no people admitted to intensive care.
Health officials confirmed that currently there is no Fuegian inhabitant convalescing from the virus, because the 31,732 infected since the beginning of the pandemic have already been discharged or are part of the 494 deceased in the southernmost jurisdiction of the country.
The epidemiological situation in Tierra del Fuego has been improving for 18 weeks in a row, which allowed provincial officials to support the flexibility of activities ordered by the national government since October 1.
In addition to eliminating the mandatory use of chinstraps outdoors (except in cases of agglomerations), the province obtained national authorization to receive foreign tourism through the Ushuaia Airport and to enable the cruise season, which began on Sunday 7 with the arrival of “National Geographic Endurance”.
According to the report of the Health Ministry, in the week of November 16, no positive cases had been recorded, neither in Ushuaia, nor in Río Grande, nor in the municipality of Tolhuin, while no deaths or hospitalized in therapy.
Meanwhile, in the previous week of November 9, the authorities had reported a similar situation.
The only alarm signal in recent months had been the report of the first case of an infection with the Delta variant of the disease, produced in Rio Grande and corresponding to a Mexican engineer who came to the island to perform work duties, although this did not led to an outbreak of infections.
According to updated data from the Public Vaccination Monitor, Tierra del Fuego received 315,348 doses of the serum since the start of the National Vaccination Plan, of which 277,022 were applied.
A total of 148,686 people received the first dose and 122,092 were also inoculated with the second, while 2,036 received the third dose for belonging to the group of older adults or health personnel, and 4,206 for being included in the age ranges or groups convened according to from the moment the previous doses were applied.
