Santo Domingo.-The Permanent Attention Office of the National District ordered three months of preventive detention for Edwin Gerónimo Mejía, the man accused of fatally assaulting his ex-partner in a hotel in the Colonial Zone.
By order of Judge Ana Lee Florimón, Mejía will serve the coercive measure at the Najayo-Hombres Correctional Center in San Cristóbal.
The lawyer for the victim’s family, Jean Cristofer Pérez, explained that the length of the measure is due to the clarity of the case.
Upon leaving the hearing, the relatives of Luisa Betances Fabián, 55, were deeply moved. According to one of her sisters, Betances Fabián had been working in a villa in Bávaro and had recently returned to be with her children.
On Sunday, August 18, employees of the hotel where the incident occurred found Betances Fabián severely beaten and alerted the medical services. Despite receiving emergency care, the victim died early Monday morning at the Dr. Darío Contreras Hospital due to the severity of her injuries.
