Three children intoxicated with marijuana were admitted to the Santa Clara hospital

MIAMI, United States. — Three children from the province of Villa Clara suffered mild intoxication after consuming some marijuana candies that had appeared at the end of December at the Abel Santamaría International Airport in that province.

A release issued by the Provincial Directorate of Public Health and the Department of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI) of Villa Clara —and published on the Facebook account of the “Jose Luis Miranda García” Provincial Pediatric University Hospital—indicates that the three minors mentioned and another two “ate two packets of candies that referred to marijuana on their wrapper.”

“These were accidentally consumed by five children who are not related to the family, but three of them required medical assistance due to the mild symptoms experienced, without being classified at any time as serious,” the information indicates.

The “clarifying note” indicates that the patients arrived at the Guardhouse and were hospitalized and placed under observation under the protocols established for such cases.

However, the next day the minors “escaped from the hospital” and “did not return to the center due to their progress without setbacks, while they already met the requirements for discharge.”

In this sense, the authorities denied the rumors about an alleged meeting held by PAMI officials regarding the alleged seriousness of two of the minors who consumed the candies.

“The highest authorities related to the case were consulted and it was determined that there were no drug addiction purposes, therefore the veracity of the audio that circulates around the seriousness of the children is dismissed.”

Despite the fact that the youngsters emerged unharmed from the state of intoxication in which they were, the statement called the population’s attention to the consumption of products of unknown origin.

“The event serves to alert the population about the care to be taken with products that are found at random, and above all to supply or have them within the reach of children. On this occasion there were no setbacks, but any negligence that conspires against the development of our children and those that could ruin life must be avoided”.
