To the rhythm of merengue, thousands of Dominicans living abroad continue to arrive in the country loaded with gifts for their family and friends, with whom they will celebrate the Christmas festivities.
The massive increase in travelers, which also includes foreigners, has led airport authorities to reinforce controls in the passenger departure area, due to the large influx of people who come to receive their loved ones.
Flights from the United States, Puerto Rico, Europe, Central America and South America are arriving full, mostly with Dominicans eager to share these holidays at home. From their arrival at the airport, passing through Immigration, Customs and finally the departure area, passengers are welcomed in the midst of contagious joy, driven by the characteristic rhythm of merengue.
MORE THAN HALF A MILLION EXPECTED PASSENGERS
The airport authorities and the Aerodom company They estimate that, during December, the Las Américas International Airport will handle more than half a million passengers due to the festivities.

To cope with this demand, domestic and foreign airlines have scheduled additional flights. “We are operating with 100% occupancy on the flights and we have extra flights planned starting December 15,” said executives from América Airlines, JetBlue, Arajet and other companies.
CHRISTMAS THANKS AND CUSTOMS FACILITIES
Many Dominicans are taking advantage of the facilities provided by the government during these holidays. By order of President Luis Abinader, absent Dominicans can bring tax-free items and gifts up to a value of $5,000.
The General Directorate of Customs, headed by Eduardo “Yayo” Sanz Lovatón, has guaranteed compliance with this measure through a commission designated to supervise operations.
REINFORCED SECURITY AT THE AIRPORT AND ITS SURROUNDINGS
The Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC), Politur, the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and other organizations have intensified surveillance in airport areas, including parking lots.
Likewise, the Armed Forces and the National Police have reinforced security on the Las Américas Highway to protect travelers and prevent any criminal act.
