The new president of Colombian Institute of Educational Credit and Technical Studies Abroad (Icetex)is Álvaro Hernán Urquijo, who came to office after ten months of uncertainty and in the middle of a serious financial crisis that passes through the entity.
The new manager is a graduate of Business Administration from the Pontifical Javeriana University and has a master’s degree in Strategic Management. Urquijo has also worked as a teacher at the Externado de Colombia University.
In the public sector, in the period between 2013 and 2015, in the government of former president Juan Manuel Santos, He was Minister of CommerceIndustry and Tourism. Likewise, he has a specialization in Social Policy. In addition, it appears as a contractor for the Agency for the Reincorporation and Normalization of the Presidency.

It is worth mentioning that the national government made his appointment official through the publication of the Decree 1460 of 2024 of the Ministry of Financeon Tuesday, December 10.
For several months, Patricia Abadía was the president in charge of the financial institution, after the resignation of Mauricio Toro which occurred on February 19 of this year.
Complicated panorama
It is noteworthy that Urquijo remains at the head of an entity, which crosses lack of resources to be able to cover and offer benefits to at least 330,000 people, who are in suspense because they do not know if they will be able to access education or at least its financing by 2025.
