President Luis Abinader declared part of the land of the Hispaniola Hotellocated on Abraham Lincoln Avenue, between Independencia and Correa y Cidrón avenues, which will be used to build the Santo Domingo Convention Center promised by the president in Madrid, Spain, at the International Tourism Fair (fitur).
Through decree 296-22, the Government declared “of public utility and social interest the acquisition, by the Dominican State, of the portions of land where the Hispaniola Hotel to be used in the construction of Santo Domingo Convention Center”.
The executive order established that the 30 lots be purchased with funds from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) and declared it urgent that “the Dominican State comes into possession of the aforementioned properties” “so that the construction of the site can begin immediately.” Santo Domingo Convention Center”.
President Abinader announced the work last January when he participated in fiturin Spain, and said that it would be built by the Madrid Trade Fair Institution Consortium (Ifema).
Ifema, which organized fitur and other fairs and conventions in Madrid, was contracted through the Banreservas group, with the advice of Mitur, to carry out the architectural design and feasibility study.
Abinader indicated that the absence of this space in the country was a weakness that hoteliers complained about, which would contribute to generating more hotel room occupations.
Dominican tourism entrepreneurs have cited the advantages of having a room that houses thousands of people.
The president of the Santo Domingo Hotel Association (AHSD), Yudit García, has affirmed that a convention center “positions us, because it is not only the fact of where the rooms are, but also having a hall with the capacity of 5,000 people. ”.
