Solicitarán al Senado respalde episcopado frente crisis Nicaragua

The spokesman of Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) in the Senate, Aris Ivan Lorenzojoined today the concern expressed by the Catholic Church, regarding the arrest by the Nicaraguan government of Bishop Rolando Álvarez Lago.

Lorenzo explained that in the face of the growing deterioration of public liberties in Nicaraguaas well as the persecution unleashed against religious, a condemnation of these actions is necessary.

“We add our concern, as expressed by the Dominican Episcopate Conference and the Pope Francisco, who has condemned the outrages of this country,” said the also member of the Political Committee of the PLD.

The legislator indicated that given the gravity of the aforementioned events, will request by resolution that the Senate of the Republic support the concern of the Dominican Episcopate Conference.

In their document made public, the Dominican bishops stated that the threats and arrests, “The violence and harassment against pastors and laity of the Nicaraguan people hurt us deeply.”

“We join the voices of so many brother bishops from other nations and to international public opinion to express our solidarity with the Nicaraguan Catholic brothers and sisters,” they specified.
