Tiburcio assured that if the situation persists that endangers the lives of the workers, the people will request that the mine of the Dominican Mining Corporation (Cormidom) be closed.
President Luis Abinader arrived in that area by helicopter, while the journalists waited in a tent to be transported to an area near the mine in two minibuses by the mining company.
Tiburcio trusted that the President’s visit gives him hope, because it would require the mine representatives to bring international technicians and teams to rescue the two workers, Gregory Alexander Méndez Torres and Carlos Yépez Opsina, trapped in a tunnel.
He indicated that as a community member he motivated Gregory Alexander Méndez Torres to work in the mine and that now he has a guilt.
On his side, Felipe Mayía said that in the mine there are about 20 young people from the community who work 12 hours a day and that they should have better conditions.
Company executives said they continue to maintain constant communication with the two workers who were trapped in a landslide while working at the Cerro de Maimón mine, located in Monseñor Nouel province.

“We have constant and effective communication with our colleagues, who have told us that they are in good physical condition and in good spirits, given the circumstances,” they explained.

The General Directorate of Mining reported that both men are in a space 2,000 meters wide and 95 meters long.
The trapped miners, who according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines are in good spirits, have been supplied with food and medicine through a pipe that could be introduced.
The national authorities have expressed that they have been talking with experts from Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Bolivia to, if necessary, bring them to the country to help in the rescue, which they assured could last a few weeks, due to the weather situation in the area.

President Luis Abinader arrived at the site this morning at 10:40 and was received by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte Reynoso, and the executives of the Mina Cerro de Maimón company.
Then the president was taken to the area where the rescue work of the Dominican Gregorio Alexander Méndez and the Colombian Carlos Yépez Ospina, who have been underground since July 31, is being carried out. Cormidon president Paul Marinko and executive vice president Elizabeth Mena accompanied the president on a tour of the area.
