The demand to buy dollars that led the population to form long lines outside financial institutions, such as exchange houses, has led opportunists to speculate on the value of currencies. The Santa Cruz Departmental Prosecutor’s Office warned that it will initiate legal proceedings against those who commit agio and financial crimes.
Prosecutor Róger Mariaca recommended that the population not fall for false information that alarms on social networks or in text messages to cell phones.
“The EThe state is the regulatory entity, through its institutions. Se is being falsely alarmed by information that is disseminated on the networks and telephony. if they meet people who are committing agio and financial crime they will be processed by the Police and the Public Ministry,” warned Mariaca.
The penalty for agio carries up to three years in jail, while the penalty for financial crimes can be five to ten years in prison.
