They warn about a deterioration in the health of political prisoner Jaime Arrellano

The political commentator and political prisoner, Jaime Arellano, presents a pabrupt weight loss and symptoms of stroke, warned the Victims of April Organization (OVA)who claimed that, despite the “serious situation” of the prisoner of conscience, he has only been examined by a general practitioner from the Judicial Assistance Directorate (DAJ), known as El Chipote.

A relative of the political prisoner confirmed to the newspaper La Prensa that Arrellano “has lost about 80 pounds, has a red and droopy eye, it seems that he has had respiratory problems such as pneumonia.”

Likewise, the OVA made a call to the International Committee of the Red Cross and the competent authorities so that “they put letters in the matter”, since if it is not evaluated by a specialist, “it can have serious complications”.

“We OVA are very concerned about the life of Jaime Arellano, we have information that he may have had a stroke. We do not resist so much pain and we ask the prison authorities, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the competent authorities to take action on the matter,” the organization published on its official Facebook page.

“No more dead political prisoners in prisons. No more pain for Nicaraguan families, no more taking their lives little by little in front of the whole world,” they added.

The opponent was arrested on July 24, 2021, and since then he has been kept under house arrest. On March 7, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the alleged crime of “conspiring to undermine national integrity.”

In previous days, the Inter-American Press Association spoke out for the deteriorating health of the six journalists who have been sentenced and hold the Government of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo responsible for what may happen to them.

Regarding the case of Arellano, they mention the ailments that afflict his health, among them: problems of obesity, circulation and high blood pressure.

“We hold them responsible before the international community for what could happen to them, both to them and to the rest of the political prisoners,” they mention in their statement.
