The Bolivarian National Police (PNB) located 205 panels of cocaine in the Sabanas Altas sector of the Píritu municipality in Falcón state, according to police sources.
The drug was hidden in a wooded area and was guarded by Rene José Hurtado Ortiz (21), who later died in the cell where he was held by self-inflicted mechanical asphyxiation, revealed a judicial source.
The shipment yielded a weight of 205 kilos.
According to what was reported by the authorities, the detection and seizure of the drug is part of Operation Iron Hand deployed by the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace to locate criminal organizations within the public administration.
At present, the drug is allegedly linked to a narco-political network dismantled between November and January last where two deputies and a mayor, among others, are detained.
