A prosecutor from the Specialized Directorate for Extinction of Ownership Rights “imposed precautionary measures on a property located in Bogotá, which would have been acquired with money resulting from the execution of homicides and other illegal activities.”

The Prosecutor’s Office detailed in a statement that the property allegedly belongs to the leader of the “La Banda de la Negra”, which is attributed murders, torture, disappearances and kidnappings that occurred in Cali, capital of the department of Valle del Cauca, between 1999 and 2006.

The criminal network is supposedly responsible for crimes such as that of the soccer player Albeiro “El Palomo” Usuriaga, which occurred in February 2004, as well as that of a detective, a police officer and two brothers, among others, assured the Prosecutor’s Office.

The affected property with precautionary measures of suspension of the dispositive power, seizure and sequestration will remain at the disposal of the Special Assets Company (SAE).

Usuriaga, who was 37 years old at the time, was murdered on February 11, 2004 when he was playing dominoes with a group of friends and relatives near his home in Cali.

“El Palomo” was part of Atlético Nacional, with which he was champion of the Copa Libertadores de América in 1989; He went through Independiente de Argentina, where he was champion of the 1994 Clausura Tournament and the Super Cup that same year.

He was out of football for two years after testing positive for cocaine and missed the 1990 World Cup in Italy due to indiscipline.

He was part of the great generation of Colombian soccer players of the 90s, among which the goalkeeper René Higuita stood out; midfielders Carlos Valderrama, Leonel Álvarez and Freddy Rincón; strikers Faustino Asprilla and Adolfo Valencia, among others.
