The journey through the Darién jungle in search of the American dream has left 19 migrants dead without being claimed in the morgue.
According to the director of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, José Vicente Pachar, the bodies remain in the morgue of La Palma, province of Darién.
Pachar detailed what happens to the bodies that are not claimed and said that in the case of migrants they are buried following the burial protocol within international humanitarian law.
Each burial is made individual and information is placed on its location record.
He said to mitigate this situation, which is becoming more frequent in this province, together with the International Committee of the Red Cross, the construction of a humanitarian cemetery is planned in Darien, to bury migrants.
