They presented the Holocaust Memory Map on archives and places in the country

The ministries of Education, Justice and the Chancellery presented the Holocaust Memorial Map in Argentinaa public access resource prepared by the Human Rights Secretariat to geolocate and obtain information on archives and places of memory dedicated to the remembrance of the Holocaust in the country, it was officially reported this Tuesday,

The presentation was made within the framework of the virtual activity “Educate for memory: Holocaust and Transmission”organized by the Ministry of Education within the framework of the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaustand was in charge of the National Director of Documentary Collection Management of the National Memory Archive, Andrea Copani.

Copani pointed out that “this type of initiative is essential to be able to combat the proliferation of denialist expressions based on the inter-institutional work of different State agencies.”

“We see the map as a powerful tool to make visible the spaces that allow the exercise of memory, historical research and education policies regarding the Holocaust“, he added.

The making of the map is part of the Malmö World Forum Commitments, signed by IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) in 2021.

To this end, an interdisciplinary team was formed with representatives of the National Memory Archive of the Human Rights Secretariat, the Education and Memory Program of the Ministry of Education, and the Human Rights Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In this way, progress was made in the registration and mapping of archives and places of memory dedicated to the remembrance of the Holocaust located throughout the national territory, summoning the participation of civil society organizations and archival institutions from all over the country.

Meanwhile, it is hoped that this permanently updated input will promote the development and dissemination of other educational materials that contribute to the remembrance of the Holocaust and the prevention of genocide and other massive atrocities.

The presentation was also attended by the Secretary of Education, Silvina Gvirtz; the director of Education for Human Rights, Gender and ESI, María Celeste Adamoli; the coordinator of the Education and Memory Program, Cristina Gómez Giusto, the researcher Emmanuel Kahan and the special representative of Argentina to IHRA, María Fabiana Loguzzo.
