Hemocentro del Hospital de Clínicas needs blood donors to cover demand during holy days.
From the Blood Center Department of the Hospital de Clínicas dependent on the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the UNA, they call for voluntary blood donation, within the framework of the Easter donation campaign. Donors can come Monday to Friday from 06:15 to 18:30 on the 2nd floor of the boarding school block.
Dr. Natalia Cazal, head of the Blood Center, said that Easter is usually a critical date for the Blood Bank, which, having so many holidays such as Christmas and New Year, need to cover the transfusion demand of those days. Even more so considering that the Blood Center is closed from Holy Wednesday to Easter Sunday.
“Which is why we are trying to collect as much blood as possible to cover the transfusion needs of those days. We also do platelet apheresis donation, as we have quite a few patients with leukemia and blood disorders, so meeting those needs is imperative,” he noted.
It should be noted that the Blood Center of the Hospital de Clínicas expanded its blood collection room, which makes care much faster and donors can quickly resume their daily activities.
“That is why we appeal to the population to come closer, because by donating blood we are donating life, and what better than donating life to others this Holy Week,” he remarked.
The Hospital de Clínicas of the Faculty of Medical Sciences is a highly complex hospital that provides medical assistance through an on-call and emergency system on holidays and holidays such as Easter. In addition to performing emergency surgeries that require a large number of transfusions and that must be covered for transplant surgeries, cardiac and oncological procedures that require high volumes of blood.
