They release the captain and corporal of the PN involved in the drug “tumbe” in Barahona

Barahona.- Magistrate Daniel Medina, judge of the Instruction of this Judicial District, varied the coercion measure against a captain and a corporal of the National Police, who were in preventive detention involved in an alleged drug dump in this city. The court ordered the payment of an economic guarantee of 100 thousand pesos and the periodic presentation.

The former prosecutor, Yván Ariel Gómez Rubio, who, together with Eusebio Rocha Ferreras, leads the technical defense of Captain Rafael Amauris Medina and Corporal Weldi Féliz Batista, as well as nine other police officers, said that justice was served in the present case and that criminal populism is destroying the dignity of people who are investigated in justice.

The Public Ministry was represented in the review of the measure by the prosecutor Freddy García Melo, who requested that the measure of coercion of the defendants be kept unchanged in the event of the alleged drug “tumbe”.

The judge ordered the variation of the coercion measure of Corporal Cherilín Suero Medina, represented by lawyers Melvin Manolín Reyes Batista and Hugo Francisco Gómez Pérez, who must pay a bail of RD$100,000.00 and periodic presentation.

The group, according to the information released by the local digital newspaper Informativo Brisas del Sur, was made aware of a coercive measure last November, to which they were sentenced to one year of preventive detention while serving their sentence in prisons in Najayo, Neyba. , Jimaní and Baní, located in the provinces of San Cristóbal, Bahoruco, Independencia and Peravia.

The defendants are: Corporal Esteban Armando Féliz Batista (Chatica), Sergeant Oscar Andrés Valentín Jiménez, Privates Iván Féliz Vólquez, Carlos David Pimentel Cuevas and Captain Rafael Amaurys Medina Pérez (Patú).

Also, Sergeants Frainel Féliz, Jorge Ramón Alcántara Urbáez, Jordany Cuevas Méndez, Miguel Ángel Féliz Féliz, Corporal Juan Carlos Medina Méndez and Private Junior Geraldo García.

The case took place weeks before the then Southern Regional Director of the National Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Then, was selected and announced by President Luis Abinader as Director General of the Law Enforcement Corps.
