Madrid Spain.- The Consulate of Spain in Havana extended until May 20 the deadline for requests for aid for Spanish residents in Cuba who are in a situation of need.
As specified by the consular office through their social media, the aid programs offered by Spain to its nationals residing in Cuba are: Welfare aid, subsistence aid and aid from the Autonomous Communities or City Councils. These programs are incompatible with each other, so those interested can only apply to one.

With regard to Assistance Aids, the Government of Spain clarifies that they are temporary and no more than one per year can be recognized. As well as not granting more than two per beneficiary or family unit of cohabitation.
Spaniards residing abroad and temporarily displaced Spanish workers in need can apply to this program. The consulate advises applicants to open an account in Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), anticipating possible changes in the regulations of the Central Bank of Cuba related to the delivery of foreign currency in cash.
To apply for Subsistence Aid are among the requirements to be a Spanish national; reside in Cuba and be registered in the Consular Registration Registry of the Consulate General of Spain in Havana; be under 18 years of age, over 65 years of age or, between the ages of 18 and 65, be unable to work. In addition, documentation must be provided confirming the lack of means of subsistence
Regarding the Aid of the Autonomous Communities or City Councils, the interested persons will have to contact the corresponding authorities and carry out the process of request.
