They establish a new model in the provision of satellite services

The national government, through Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MinTIC), explained in resolution 0376 of February 3, 2022 that repeals the current satellite regime, and established a new model in the provision of satellite services.

According to the ICT minister, Carmen Ligia Valderramawith this new regime is contributing “to the development of connectivity throughout the territory, to the extent that satellite solutions are highly efficient in terms of coverage, particularly in areas of difficult access. We expect a significant increase in the number of satellite Internet accesses in these regions, contributing to closing the digital divide”.

The new regulations of the ICT Ministry foresee that in the medium term increase investment of new actors, as well as those established, and that these investments translate into better conditions for providing the service to users.

The MinTIC added that with the modernization of the satellite regime “an obsolete model for the management of the spectrum associated with satellite services is left behind, offering incentives for investment whenever the consideration is reduced in some cases close to 80% compared to the current cost. This model was analyzed by the Office for Income Management of the FUTIC and has feasibility.”.
