The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners denounced, this Saturday, December 14, that the authorities have still not delivered the body of political prisoner Jesús Rafael Álvarez, who died in custody. «It arrived at 7am, this Saturday to the headquarters of the scientific police in Tocuyito and since then he had no communication with his family or friends, who accompany him in this painful moment,” the letter cited.
Earlier, Elizabeth Suárez, maternal aunt of Jesús Alejandro Álvarez, had reported the disappearance of her nephew when she went to make arrangements for the delivery of her father’s body.
The statements were made through a video broadcast on

During the night of Friday, December 13, Álvarez had demanded that the authorities hand over his father’s body, after he went to the Carabobo Penitentiary Complex (Tocuyito prison) and the authorities did not give him a response.
Álvarez, who found out about his father’s death through social networks, declared to the Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) that no one from the Ministry of Penitentiary Service informed him that his father’s body was in the Senamecf.
He indicated that he went to the scene and recognized the body through a photograph. “I saw my dad unrecognizable: emaciated, bearded, extremely thin.” He pointed out that in the photograph his father had a swollen cheekbone, with obvious signs of a blow.

«My dad was a healthy person, he didn’t suffer from anything. There they punished him just for being hungry. If he complained, he was isolated and tied up. If he asked to speak to the family, they beat him. “They punished my father and killed him in prison,” he said through tears.
So far, authorities have not issued an official statement on the death, even though it occurred in state custody.
“I don’t want my mom to die.”
The young man also told the OVP team that his mother, Anny Suárez de Álvarez, continues to be detained in a police cell in the state of Bolívar. He claimed not to know how to break this tragic news: “How do I tell a woman who has loved that man all her life?” The couple shared more than 20 years together and had never been apart.
“Today I am taking my dead father, but I don’t want my mother to be handed over to me anyway,” he expressed through tears. She cried out for her mother’s release, so that she could accompany them to say goodbye to her husband.
The couple was arrested on August 2, in El Callao, Bolívar state. Both were transferred to a National Guard headquarters in Puerto Ordaz. A month later, Jesús was transferred to the Tocuyito prison.
