Opposition organizations, which make up the Unity for Democracy (PUDE) platform, demanded, through a statement, to carry out an audit of CABEI, in order to publicly know the financing approved for Nicaragua, “as of December 1, 2018 when Mr. Dante Mossi assumes the presidency of the bank».
They assert that it will be the prerogative of a future democratic Nicaraguan government to decide whether to recognize the payment of those loans granted “to a regime that has committed crimes against humanity.”

Regarding possible loans to be made to Nicaragua, during the next months, the detractors of the dictatorship emphasized that “special attention must be paid to the relationship between Mr. Mossi and the Ortega Murillo regime (…) No more actions should be accepted than favor the dictatorship in a non-transparent way”.
Regarding the future president of the bank, the Unity for Democracy platform proposed a meeting between representatives of the Governors of CABEI “as well as with the person who will assume the Executive Presidency of that institution and representatives of Nicaraguan civil society, to provide support to the bank’s policy regarding Nicaragua”.
In turn, they promised to remain “vigilant” before the next steps that the bank develops in relation to the country. They also state that they are “in all disposition to support the inclusion of a credit policy that considers respect for the human rights of all the member countries of this financial institution.”
After Mossi’s departure, which ends on November 30 of this year, the opposition groups indicated that there is an opportunity for a new relationship between CABEI and Nicaragua.

The reactions of these opposition groups occur after Mossi did not get enough votes in the Board of Governors, held on May 12, to continue leading the financial institution.
This decision was made after, prior to the meeting, Nicaraguan civil society organizations demanded that he not be re-elected due to “his complicity” with the Nicaraguan dictatorship.
