Human rights organizations denounce the “arbitrary and illegal” detention of professor and former politician Juan Bautista Guevara Carballo, who was arrested this Monday morning, January 9, by 40 police officers who raided his home and used violence against him. citizen and his family.

The international organization Raza e Igualdad points out that during the arrest police agents forcibly entered the house, beat Guevara, pointed a gun at his mother and did not report the reasons for the arrest. They affirm that they do not know where Guevara is and under what conditions. In addition, they demand “information on the whereabouts of the teacher and respect for his physical and psychological integrity. Release him immediately!”

For its part, the Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) reports that at the time of the arrest the teacher “was
outside her house waiting for her 18-year-old son to go to work. Three patrol cars with at least 20 officers in blue uniforms and balaclavas stood in front of them and after receiving the order from a policeman in civilian clothes, they grabbed their shirts and handcuffed them.”

Cenidh affirms that the police “threw down the wooden pole where the surveillance camera was and damaged the surveillance cameras of the neighbors to erase all evidence of the brutal detention. The policemen denied information from where Juan Bautista would be taken.

“We condemn this brutal detention and we demand that the regime respect the personal integrity and life of Professor Juan Bautista Guevara Carballo, that his whereabouts be reported and that he be released immediately,” reiterates the human rights center.

A day before, Guevara had denounced through an audio and supported with photographs sent to Article 66 the repeated siege by police elements and individuals dressed in civilian clothes. «(…) I am sending you these photos and this audio to continue denouncing the harassment, siege, persecution and harassment every day in my house, here in Ticuantepe, Buenos Aires neighborhood (…) by paramilitaries and police in civilian clothes who are always in my house at all hours,” he said.
