On January 12, 1972, a group of young people called “Los Palmeros” formed by Amaury Germán Aristy, Virgilio Perdomo Pérez, Bienvenido Leal Prandy (La Chuta) and Ulises Cerón Polanco were killed after confronting hundreds of soldiers and policemen armed with tanks. mortars, flamethrowers, and high-caliber machine guns.
Los Palmeros was a group of young people with revolutionary ideas that went against the political current of the Joaquín Balaguer governments.
The group headed by Amaury Germán was called “Los Palmeros” because the academy where they received training was located in Pinar del Río, Cuba, a place where palms were abundant. It was a way of differentiating itself from the other revolutionary militias that operated to date.
