Faced with the announced protests in the macro-south region, which could repeat the violent demonstrations that caused the death of 28 people last December, the Police joined the initiative to call on citizens to participate tomorrow, Tuesday, at 3:00 p.m. , to one Great March for Peace throughout the country, in which different social organizations in favor of democracy will participate.
Civic activity will have as concentration points “the main squares nationwide.” In the case of Metropolitan Lima, the start of the mobilization will be in the Campo de Marte, in the district of Jesús María, and will continue through the streets of the capital until reaching San Martín square in downtown Lima.
The head of Dircote, Óscar Arriola, invited the population to join the initiative and wear white garments as a symbol of peace.
Former GEIN member José Luis Gil specified to Peru21 that members of the Church and citizen movements from various regions of the country will participate in the march. “It is an open activity for citizens who ask for peace,” she remarked.
He specified that the PNP has already called for similar marches in Tingo María. “It is a totally legitimate activity; Those who oppose seek pretexts for violence to prevail, ”he said.
Former head of Dircote José Baella agreed and recalled that the institution had already promoted these mobilizations in Miraflores last July and in Ayacucho in September.
“There is no political interference because we Peruvians are the ones who also call for ourselves. We cannot allow the extreme left parties to pressure the government and corner it so that they resign and promote a new Constitution”, he added.
As he specified, the role of the PNP will be to accompany the protesters of the peaceful march and its function will continue to be to guarantee the safety of people in the mobilizations at the national level.

PNP DOES NOT VIOLATE RULES
The former president of the Constitutional Court Oscar Urviola maintained that the call of the PNP to march for peace does not constitute an infringement of the law or the Constitution as long as there is no incompatibility with the functions of the institution.
“It is a call to observe peace. There is no prohibition to call a march. If the Police tries to guarantee public order through civic actions, this is one of them, ”he pointed out.
KEEP IN MIND
- The March for Peace had already been announced by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, last Friday, during a press conference in Cusco.
- Congressman Luis Aragón (AP), representative of Cusco, asked the January 4 protesters not to resort to violence or attacks on public or private property. He assured that he has been in dialogue with different social organizations.
