Prosecutor Víctor Hugo Cervantes ordered the arrest of policeman Juan Carlos M. because, presumably, he is involved in the attack on taxi driver Juan Carlos Villavicencio, who, presumably, was mistaken for an abuser.
“We have arranged the corresponding order of apprehension of the investigatedsince we have sufficient evidence to confirm that he was at the scene of the events,” said the representative of the Public Ministry.
Cervantes said that the police officer admitted in his statement that he was accompanying his brother Jaime M. on Sunday, April 2, when the latter hit Villavicencio with an iron because, according to what his daughter told him, the taxi driver was chasing her to abuse her. However, investigations found that the person affected followed the young woman because she had hit him and she was looking for the damage to her vehicle to be repaired.
“He (apprehended) acknowledges that he was accompanying his brother, who is now in preventive detention (in the Palmasola prison). For this reason will be brought before a judge but the precautionary measure that will be requested to be applied against him will be analyzed,” the prosecutor told the media.
Cervantes indicated that the police officer will be charged with the alleged crimes of attempted homicide, serious and minor injuries, the same charges for which his brother Jaime was accused, who would be the main person responsible for this severe aggression.
For his part, the lawyer Cristián Sánchez, said he was dissatisfied with the capture of his client, since he assures that he has Collaborated throughout the investigative process and has apologized to the affected taxi driver, despite the fact that he did not participate in the attack.
“My client deserves to defend himself in freedom and that is what we will ask the judge at the hearing. In addition, he has collaborated with his testimony and has admitted that he was at the scene of the events. He has also expressed his regret for this event and his apologies to the victim,” added the lawyer.
