Deputy Jose Horacio Rodriguez of the Alianza País party, stated this Wednesday during the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, that there are no guarantees that the prices of food that make up the basic basket will fall with the bill presented by the government of Luis Abinader, which reduces the tariff on some of these imported products to zero, but yes, he pointed out, that could put the national productive apparatus at risk.
The legislator for the National District indicated during his speech that Alianza País is concerned about the fact that the measures presented in the bill put the country’s productive sectors at risk, which would negatively impact the access of the population to food and employment.

Rodríguez expressed that he understands the reason for importing products that are not currently produced in the country, but that at this time of uncertainty that the world is experiencing as a result of the pandemic, the inflation that has increased steadily since 2020, as well as the war living in Ukraine, have demonstrated the need for the country to apply public policies that generate greater sovereignty and resilience, not greater dependence on imports.
He welcomed the fact that the government is looking for alternatives to help the economy of Dominican families at this time, but indicated that these should be aimed at the benefit of final consumers.
