In a decision that seems to have broken all the cracks between the ruling party and position, the benches of all political parties represented in the Senate agreed this Thursday to vote in favor of the impropriety requested by the prosecutor Alicia Ghione for the nationalist senator Gustavo Penadés, accused by eight people for alleged sexual abuse of minors.
The vote will determine the process that will be applied and the day on which the corresponding session will take place. This measure has generated great expectations and debate within the political and legal field.
the vice president Beatriz Argimon led a meeting in which all the political coordinators of the different parties participated. The main objective was to discuss and reach an agreement on the procedure to follow in relation to the impeachment of the official legislator.
Options proposed by Beatriz Argimón to process the impeachment of Penadés
During the meeting, three options were presented to carry out the impeachment process. The first option, preferred by the nationalists, consists of an “in voce” report made by the vice president in the plenary session of the chamber, followed by a vote. This alternative would allow a more agile and expedited process.
The second option, which has greater support at this time, involves calling a session next Tuesday and, subsequently, voting on a fourth intermission. During this recess, sessions would be held in the Constitution and Legislation Commission of the Senate, where the issue would be analyzed in greater detail.
After finishing the fourth intermission, the issue would return to the plenary session and it would be approved in the same place.
Gustavo Penadés is denounced by eight people for alleged sexual abuse of minors and pedophilia. The first person to denounce it was the nationalist militant, Romina Celeste Papasso Oliver, and later people joined individually.
Last April, a young man who was supposed to also denounce the official legislator, was assassinated in Sayago, where he lived. According to Papasso, he had contacted her to get her advice on filing the complaint.
