A large group of interprovincial bus passengers are walking along the Panamericana Sur to reach Lima and other destinations after protesters are currently blocking kilometers 261, 290 and 299 of the main national highway at the height of the Salas Guadalupe district (Ica ), demanding the closure of Congress and the advancement of new general elections.
Víctor Yamunaqué, a passenger affected by the blockades, said that on Thursday he boarded the interprovincial bus from the city of Arequipa to Lima, but this morning the vehicle in which he was on board had to stop its transit because the road was clogged with stones, sticks and tires that have been set on fire.
“I come from the city of Arequipa to Lima. I took the bus yesterday at noon and everything was calm and today at dawn we were stranded. Then the bus advanced a couple of kilometers and then it did not advance. The line of vehicles is immense. I am walking for more than half an hour to transfer to Lima”he pointed out in dialogue with Latina.
“The bad thing is that this demonstration is that it is not peaceful. There are many cars with broken windows. I took the bus for work and that’s why I came alone. Our bus is behind us, but now that I’m walking right now and the buses are still stranded […] I, children and the elderly, have had to go down and walk”he added.
Meanwhile, the newscast América Noticias reported that a greater number of police officers reached kilometer 299 of the Panamericana Sur highway to unblock this point. Likewise, the agents are talking with the representatives of this group of protesters so that they lift their measure.
The kilometers of the Panamericana Sur blocked are 261, in the Barrio Chino area, 290, in the La Expansión Urbana sector, and 299, in the El Álamo sector, located in the district of Salas Guadalupe, in the province of Ica.
