“Since we announced our parole processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans, we have made it clear that those who arrive at our southern border are not eligible for parole processes. We are announcing today that this ineligibility will now be extended to people who jump into the sea and are intercepted, trying to reach our maritime borders,” Mayorkas said.
Although the possibilities of obtaining legal entry permission will be expanded, the punishments for those who try to do so illegally will be intensified: not only will they be expeditiously expelled, but they will also be banned from entering the northern country for five years; as well as they could be criminally prosecuted.
The regulations, which have among their objectives to combat human trafficking, include the modernization of the Cuban Family Reunification Parole Program.
“People are encouraged to use the many legal avenues that the United States has expanded in the last two years. Today, the United States is announcing additional legal avenues, including expanded access to the CBPOne application to appear at a US port of entry,” they said.
In this sense, when the order of the Title 42, migrants located in central and northern Mexico will have access to the CBPOne mobile app to schedule an appointment to appear at a port of entry instead of attempting to enter between ports. Additional appointments will be made available by CBPOne and the use of this tool will allow for safe, orderly and humane processing.
The officials also announced that the parole for family reunification allowed for Cubans and Haitians will be extended to Salvadorans, Hondurans, Guatemalans and Colombians.
