The Uruguayan ambassador to Guatemala died at the age of 60. Boris Svetogorsky Marinoreported this Friday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Central American country, which also expressed its “sincere shows of solidarity” with the Uruguayan people and government.
“This Foreign Ministry extends the Condolences to the family and friends of Ambassador Svetogorsky for his irreparable lossand raise a prayer that the Lord comfort their hearts in these moments of pain, “he adds in a statement.
The authorities did not report the diplomat’s cause of death.
Svetogorsky took office on May 16, 2019and “carried out important work for the benefit of political and dynamic dialogue between the two nations,” said the Guatemalan government.
In March 2022, he participated in the Guatemalan Congress to celebrate 115 years of relations between Uruguay and Guatemala.
On March 1, 2020, he published a photo with then-new president Luis Lacalle Pou, and wrote on Twitter: “Already back in my diplomatic post to continue representing my country Uruguay. Happy to have accompanied president Luis Lacalle Pou and Vice President Beatriz Argimón at the inauguration of a new democratic government”.
Svetogorsky was born on March 22, 1962 in Montevideo. He was co-founder of Golf for Uruguay (2008)a charitable non-profit institution, created in the city of Chicago, to raise funds to repair schools in rural areas of Uruguay.
