From 00:00 next Monday, April 4, there will be an increase in the bus ticket of $3 if paid with electronic money -STM card- and $4 if paid in cash when boarding the car.

“The one-hour ticket paid with the STM card will cost $39, while payment with cash will cost $48,” reported the Municipality of Montevideo through its website.

“This adjustment occurs within the framework of a public transport system that has faced the largest and most abrupt crisis in its history, exceeding by up to four times what it suffered during the 2002 crisis,” added the capital city.

Vulnerable populations will not suffer increases

Public transport fares rise after more than a year of remaining unchanged and the adjustment is 8.39%, below inflation, according to what is indicated by the IM.

They will not increase the tickets for the most vulnerable populations: retirees and pensioners, the zonal ticket and the ticket for the populations reached by the ABC plan. “Those people who access this benefit (the ABC) for having the Uruguay Social Card will receive a refund of double what was reintegrated, thus doubling the benefit. It is worth remembering that to access this benefit it is not necessary to carry out any procedure, ”said the IM.
