The start of the I Elite League of Cuban Baseball is postponed due to lack of uniforms

MADRID, Spain.- The start of the I Cuban Baseball Elite League, scheduled for this October 8, has been postponed because the uniforms of the participating teams did not arrive on time, according to the Cuban authorities.

“The non-arrival of an essential part of the uniforms designed for the teams makes it necessary to postpone the start of the I Elite League of Cuban Baseball, initially announced for this Saturday in Bayamo,” said the National Baseball Commission (CNB), quoted by the official HIT.

The statement indicates that the uniforms are made abroad by the Teammate brand in coordination with the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB).

“Causes beyond the control of both parties prevented the deadlines designed for the transfer from being met,” the information indicates.

As well as adding that “in the midst of sustained efforts”, alternatives were analyzed, “which seemed destined for us to receive the cargo this Thursday, but in the end it was not possible due to inconveniences in the field of transportation.”

This Friday the CNB will hold a technical conference in Granma “to make the payrolls official and specify other details inherent to the event.”

According to the information, training and restoration of the stadiums damaged by Hurricane Ian in Pinar del Río and Artemisa continue for the time being.

The new start date of the Elite League will be announced “when the conditions are right”.

Last September the official media had released the design of the uniforms for the different teams.

In a note from Cubadebate It was specified that each team had a color range: Tobacco Growers (green), Port Workers (blue and brown), Centrals (orange), Ranchers (blue and yellow), Farmers (green and brown) and Coffee Growers (black and red).

In addition, it was indicated that each team would have two home club locker rooms, predominantly white (1) and gray (2), and one for visitors with the colors of their identity.

The island’s sports authorities want the Cuban Baseball Elite League to be the highest-level amateur tournament in this discipline in the country and to strengthen the sport national.

Presumably, the best players have been selected, but this selection has brought controversy among fans.

The names of the six teams in the league were announced in July this year, as well as their venues and number of players.

Initially, it was established that the regular season would be played between October and December and the playoffs in January 2023.
