What happens if correspondence arrives at your house that is destined for someone who does not live there? Imagine that you receive receipts for promotions, collections and, in the worst case, seizures and complaints, because a person gave your address as his place of residence before the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Renieck) and other entities. Do you know what to do in those cases?
To avoid confusion and bad times, you must request Reniec to observe the erroneous information in its database, a procedure called address challenge that you can do at any entity headquarters and free of charge.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO REQUEST THE CHALLENGE OF ADDRESS?
You must have the following documents:
- Request Format addressed to the Investigation and Purification Sub-Management as a Sworn Statement: it must be signed by the contestant and must have the name of the citizen or the number of his DNI, whose registration is contested. Personal data, procedural address and signature or digital impression, as appropriate, of the challenger. Clear and precise reason for the challenge.
- Home Verification: It must be issued by a notary and in the case of populated centers, a certificate issued by the Justice of the Peace. The notary or the judge must verify that the person does not live at the address.
- Identity document of the challenger: In the case of Peruvian citizens, the DNI must be presented and if they are foreigners, they must show the Immigration Card or present a simple copy of the Passport or Identity Card.
HOW IS THE RESIDENCY CHALLENGE PROCESS CARRIED OUT?

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RESOLVE THE CHALLENGE OF ADDRESS?
The challenge will be resolved after notification to the holder of the registration that is intended to be challenged.

- If a reconsideration of the decision is requested, it must be filed within 15 business days. Reniec’s Investigation and Purification Sub-Management has 30 business days to resolve the appeal.
- In case of appeal, the maximum term to present the appeal is 15 working days. The Identification Records management has a maximum of 30 business days to resolve the appeal.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE APPLICATION TO CHALLENGE THE ADDRESS IS ADMITTED?
The challenging citizen must comply with the publication in the Official newspaper El Peruano and in another of greater circulation, only once.
