AEBU informed that Citibank announced the sale to “Grupo Insigneo”, a financial services group, of the brokerage business of Citi International Financial Services (CIFS), in Montevideo and in Zona Franca. As a result, 16 workers would be fired.

AEBU expresses that “it cannot allow a bank that carries out a million-dollar business to lay off workers and at the same time remain active in Uruguay. This is an attack against the historic struggle for the defense of work that will not be tolerated”.

permanent conflict

Within this framework, this Monday, May 30, the private banking workers’ union declared itself in permanent conflict, until a negotiating table is installed to address this situation.

As a first union measure, encompassing all affiliates in private banks, there will be no overtime, transfers, changes in schedule or training and strict compliance with work hours will be carried out.

“The union will continue to mobilize and do everything in its power to reverse the dismissal of our colleagues,” said AEBU.
