English Premier League CEO Richard Masters celebrated this Thursday the decision of Roman Abramovich to put Chelsea up for salewhose fans thanked the Russian businessman for his “unprecedented success”.
The millionaire’s name does not appear for now on the British list of sanctions against bankscompanies and tycoons pro-Kremlin, after the invasion of Ukraine by decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The fear of an eventual seizure of his assets would have led Abramovich to separate from his London club, as made official on Wednesday. The 55-year-old oligarch also announced that the “net proceeds” of the sale will go to war victims.
“The situation has degenerated incredibly quickly in the last seven days and he (Roman Abramovich) came to the good conclusion”allocated Richard Masters in a forum dedicated to football and organized in London by the Financial Times.
“The situation had become untenable.. It is a welcome decision, for the good of everyone, including the fans,” he added.
For its part, Chelsea fans expressed their gratitude to Abramovich for having made his club one of the strongest in Europe, since his arrival in 2003.
The Chelsea Supporters’s Trust (CST) group issued a statement on that line: “The CST expresses its gratitude to Mr Abramovich for his love, passion and dedication to Chelsea FC. His support has brought us unprecedented success during his tenure. Chelsea fans will never forget all he has done for our club. Thank you, Mr. Abramovich.”
