This Wednesday, May 4, the trade union will present to President Lacalle a document with the proposals made in the act of last May 1.
“I hope that some of the proposals made by the PIT-CNT to improve wages and create jobs are accepted by the government,” said Abdala.
work and salary
He stressed that generating work is always welcome, but the problem is the quality of employment. In statements to Underlined, the union leader stated that in a situation where inequality grows and wealth increases, but the participation of workers and retirees in national wealth decreases, the proposals have to generate work and wages.
Although he acknowledged that employment grew, he said it was in low-quality conditions. “The new jobs are at wage levels lower than the pandemic. 37% of the new jobs that were created are solidarity day laborers who earn about 6,000 pesos per month.
For this reason, the PIT-CNT proposes a tripartite dialogue environment to generate quality jobs and where the Executive Power helps with public policies, the business sector with investment and commitment, and the working party putting what has to be put to generate job”.
Other proposals
On the other hand, Abdala said that the trade union center will propose to the government, as it did in the act of May 1, “adjust family allowances, and the Uruguay Social Card, raise the national minimum wage, develop a public investment program in infrastructure and housing that generates quality jobs”.
He referred to the need to develop a system of public purchases in what the State requires to set up national industrial suppliers that generate employment.
Social security reform
He stressed that the PIT-CNT proposes the installation of a social dialogue environment to work comprehensively on social security issues.
He said that the aim is to have a “more comprehensive” discussion than the one held in the Technical Commission, which was made up of representatives of all parties and social sectors, in which -he assured- “no funding was seen, it dealt only with the problems of the BPS and not with the issues of other savings banks, such as the Military. A prospective of how the world of work and productivity will change with new technologies was not analyzed.
He rejected that it is proposed to raise the retirement age by sweeping and changing the way of calculating retirements by lowering future retirements.
“We are placing a lot of interest in the meeting that we will have on Wednesday with the President of the Republic. I hope that some questions can be answered immediately and others will have to be studied”, he pointed out.
