The continuity of Oneil Cruz is in the air after the statements offered by the general manager of the Pirates about a slight injury to the Dominican in the winter league.
According to the MLB Justice de los Santos report, Cherington reported yesterday that the ankle injury suffered by Cruz is “relatively minor” although the Dominican continues to have swelling in his left foot.
In addition, the Pirates announced that they will try to get Cruz to return to the United States after the Christmas holidays to ascertain what is really happening with the discomfort in his left ankle.
Oneil Cruz was playing with the Tigres del Licey in the winter league of his native country, however he has not seen action with the blue team since last December 15 in a match in which he participated as designated hitter against the Toros del Este, in which he had two hits in three at-bats. He also hasn’t been in the lineup for the team’s two postseason games.
In recent days, the general manager of the Tigres, Audo Vicente, informed through the Dominican program Diamante Deportivo that due to a “precaution” issue, Oneil Cruz would remain out of the blue lineup.
All of the above indicates that at least for the remainder of 2022, the Tigres del Licey will not have the services of Oneil Cruz and their participation in the remainder of the Round Robin would be in danger.
