With the presentation of the queen of the “Carnival of Panama 2023”, Anubis Osorio, her princesses Cristal Fábrega and María Syres and the presence of carnival queens from the interior of the country, the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) officially launched this party , which will be concentrated in the Cinta Costera 1.
The general administrator of the ATP, Iván Eskildsen, opened the press conference noting that after two years of prohibitions of massive outdoor events, the Panamanian party returns and all the logistics are ready to receive nationals and foreigners who will enjoy this celebration in the capital city.
He expressed that the carnivals are an activity that reflects the joy and festive spirit of Panamanians, and that at the same time generates a great economic impact at the national level, contributing to the creation of jobs.
This year, as in previous years, we wanted to highlight the contribution of the popular comparsas, in order to exalt it as “Intangible Cultural Heritage”. Some 23 have signed up to participate in the parades that will tour the Cinta Costera 1 starting on Carnival Saturday, including: Los Originales del Chorrillo, Comparsa Roberto Durán, Los Pumas de Arraiján, Caña Brava, Los Jamaicans, Hippies de Barraza.
The carnival budget assigned to Panama City is the lowest in at least the last 8 years. The ATP has indicated that it will carry out the most efficient investment possible with the available resources to provide national and foreign visitors with a carnival of height.
In the La Huaca Theater complex, in ATLAPA, full of queens, murgas and tambourines, SRM Anubis Osorio later appeared with his Royal Court, provoking euphoria and a carnival atmosphere, which was joined by the queens invited from inside the country, Colon and Chepo.
The 21-year-old queen of the capital’s carnival said that becoming the queen of the Panamanian people’s party is an honor and a commitment and that she will not disappoint her subjects. “I promise it will be five nights and four days of fun, lots of water, luxury and splendor.”
She invited the population to accompany her to her coronation next Friday, February 17, at 8:00 pm, on the Cinta Costera1, an event that will be enlivened by an artistic show.
“Los Patrones de la Cumbia Samy y Sandra Sandoval” burst onto the stage performing their best hits, including the theme of summer and carnival: Buena Muchacha”, which put those present to dance, starting the engines of the capital’s carnival.
Also during the conference it was announced that there will be presentations by national artists on the main stage, where the queen’s coronation will take place and on the tropical stage, the five nights and four days of revelry, the ATP announced that this year it has hired a greater number of national artists compared to the last carnival celebration in 2020.
Among the performers are Rigo El Negro, Salsa Project, Alejandro Torres, Jonathan Chávez, Samy and Sandra Sandoval, Nenito Vargas, Ulpiano Vergara, Manuel and Abdiel, Toti Pino; while of the urban genre: Mr Saik, Comando Tiburón, Eddy Lover, Dubsky, Italian Somali, Jordan, Barbel, BCA, Tachi, El Roockiie and Anyuri among others.
The artistic show will start at 8:00 pm and end at 4:00 am, on the main and tropical stage, from Friday 17 to Tuesday 21 February.
The culecos will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with four tank cars, which will have to go through the verification process required by the Ministry of Health (MINSA), in order to comply with the supply standards of water from sites authorized by the Ministry of the Environment.
Meanwhile, the parades will begin at 5:00 pm, starting from the Seafood Market, returning along East 29th Street to 25th Street, Balboa Avenue, to return along the Cinta Costera in the direction of Paitilla.
For the sale of food and drinks, the 70 kiosks that benefited from the draw carried out by the ATP this week at ATLAPA will be located on Cinta Costera 1. MINSA will supervise the safety of food in these food outlets.
The National Government, through Executive Decree #19 of December 19, 2022, made official the celebration in national territory of Carnival 2023.
A carnival has been organized for people to enjoy healthily and with the safety of the Joint Task Force, which will be deployed throughout the country.
