The number of winning projects of the contests Fomecawhich promote community media, border media and indigenous peoples, increased 93%while the number of entities that received them grew by 46% and the total number of lines awarded grew by 75%, reported this Wednesday the National Communications Entity (Enacom).
The Research and Strategy Unit of the Subdirectorate for Community Media and Plurality of Voices presented a new Annual Report on Indicators of the Competitive Development Fund for Audiovisual Communication Media (Fomeca, according to its official name), which revealed the evolution and development of that public policy of Enacom during the past year.
From the data recorded by that official body, it appears that during 2021 “there were 522 winning projects, totaling 216 beneficiariesincluding 51 entities that received financing from Fomeca for the first time”. During the year in question, the number of lines awarded was 7.

In relation to the budget, during 2021 they were awarded 429,187,852 pesos. “Regarding the thematic content and format, the total awarded was distributed as follows: 68.10% was for content production; 21.25% for equipment and building adaptation; and 10.65% for projects related to to education and training. In all three cases, radio and audiovisual formats were included,” Enacom said in a statement.
Regarding the line oriented to native peoples, in 2021 there were 24 winning entities and 6 of them for the first time in Fomeca. In total, 53 winning projects were counted, in which 40,627,520 pesos were awarded, of which just over 53% were paid.

On the other hand, over the past year five new lines were opened for an amount of 425,179,567 pesos, which were applied to radio and TV formats with the purpose of being oriented towards investment in equipment, production, management and content -the latter has Community Productive Experiences and Trans Labor Quota as sub-lines.
Analyzed by region, the NOA had 23 beneficiaries of 46 winning projects, who were awarded 32.44 million pesos. In the NEA there were 15 beneficiaries of 41 winning projects, with 34.5 million pesos awarded. In the Nuevo Cuyo area, 11 beneficiaries of 40 winning projects were counted, with 29.37 million pesos awarded. In the center of the country, there were 39 beneficiaries of 92 winning projects with 68.46 million pesos. In the Metropolitan region, there were 62 beneficiaries of 42 winning projects with 123.96 million awarded. In the Patagonia area, there were 28 beneficiaries of 68 winning projects, with 56.06 million awarded. Finally, Buenos Aires had 38 beneficiaries of 93 winning projects, with 84.38 million awarded.

We consider that the plurality of voices is nodal as a public policy and guarantee for the exercise of the human right to communication,” said María Sucarrat, deputy director of Community Media and Plurality of Voices at Enacom.
