The Netherlands regrets Ortega’s “disproportionate decision” for breaking diplomatic relations

Through the deputy prime minister of the Netherlands, Wopke HoekstraHolland lamented the «disproportionate decision» of the Nicaraguan regime to break diplomatic relations.

The reactions of the Dutch government come after the confirmation by the Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the immediate breaking of diplomatic relations with that country due to its repeated “interfering, interventionist and neo-colonialist” position.

Before the decision of the Nicaraguan government, the dictator Daniel Ortega launched insults against the Netherlands during his speech at the Police parade. “We don’t want relations with that interventionist government.”

Faced with Ortega’s decision, the Netherlands defended its position towards the Nicaraguan people, stating that “we take a firm position on the deterioration of democratic structures and human rights violations in Nicaragua.”

Hoekstra noted that “a critical discussion is always better than ending a relationship”, in reference to the decision of Ortega and Murillo to break diplomatic relations with the Netherlands.

At the same time, he indicated that, like the Netherlands, “other countries have also noted difficulties in maintaining an open dialogue with Nicaragua” and reported that “our next steps with the EU (European Union) will be discussed.”

McFields: «New record for Ortega»

For his part, the ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Arthur McFields, He described Ortega’s actions against the United States and now against the Netherlands as a “new record.”

«In a week, Ortega expels the ambassador of the European Union, breaks relations with the Netherlands and slams the door in the face of the US ambassador. He banishes a scientist and an indigenous leader. He launches racist, vulgar and blasphemous insults », expressed the opponent through his Twitter account.

With the new actions of the dictatorship that is isolating him more and more, McFields emphasized that «Nicaragua It has no president”, in relation to the decisions made by Daniel Ortega.

Ortega and his speech against the Netherlands

Earlier, during the parade of the 43rd anniversary of the Police, Ortega assured that the ambassador of that country, Marie-Chrístine Théodore Thérése Pirenne, concurrent from Costa Rica, during a visit to Foreign Minister Moncada, gave a speech “outrageous for the dignity of Nicaragua”.

The Nicaraguan president said that his foreign minister, Denis Moncada, received the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands last Thursday. “What did Foreign Minister Moncada hear? The ambassador came to speak to the Nicaraguans as if Nicaragua was a Dutch colony of those that they still have in some regions and those that they had and multiplied at the time that the colonies multiplied in European countries.

Likewise, Ortega recalled that in 2018 the Netherlands suspended the construction of a hospital in the city of Bilwi, in the northern Caribbean of Nicaragua, valued at 21.5 million dollars, with which, in his opinion, it demonstrated “its human misery.” .

The Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands suspended cooperation for the construction of this hospital in Nicaragua, due to “serious human rights violations committed by government officials and vigilante groups” in the framework of anti-government demonstrations.

In less than 48 hours, Daniel Ortega has strongly attacked the international community, the Catholic Church and the human rights organization, defending what he calls “the sovereignty and independence of Nicaragua,” which is no more —according to critics— the annoyance because the cessation of the repression in the country is demanded.
