The road duplication works on route 5, between Florida and Sarandí Grande, will begin in September and correspond to the third planned stage, for an investment of 100 million dollars. The section to be expanded is the last one that remains to be awarded for this work, which runs from the department of Canelones to Durazno, to improve circulation and road safety.
The Undersecretary of Transportation and Public Works, Juan José Olaizola, informed the Presidential Communication, this Wednesday the 13th, about the signing of the last contract for the extension of the double track on Route 5.
The work in its entirety extends from kilometer 43, in Canelones, to 180, in Durazno, and means an investment of 300 million dollars.
Olaizola pointed out that it is a necessary infrastructure due to the increase in production and activity in the center of the country. He also indicated that it is an expansion work divided into four sections: the first two are already under development, from Canelones to the Mendoza toll and from Mendoza to kilometer 95 in Florida; while the third, between Florida and Sarandí Grande, and the last, between Sarandí Grande and kilometer 180, in Durazno, will begin in September.
On the other hand, he added that it was a contract of design, construction, rehabilitation, maintenance and financing (Cremaf), which supposes a simpler administrative instrumentation and financial engineering, and less years than those of public-private participation (PPP). The winning companies are Stiller and Incoci.
