The Ministry of Labor and Social Security will subsidize wages in companies that hire people based in Soriano, Río Negro, Paysandú, Salto and Artigas. Companies that hire young people between the ages of 15 and 29 or over 45, who belong to households below the poverty line, will have subsidies of 60% (in the case of men) and 80% (in the case of women) in wages, explained the Director of Employment, Daniel Pérez, to Communication from the Presidency.
The ministry temporarily incorporated residents of those departments into the Groups in Situation of Social Vulnerability programto dock the unemployment situation that occurs in that area of the country, caused, among other things, by the exchange difference with Argentina that, for example, has led many Uruguayans to choose to buy products from the other side of the pondthus affecting national trade.
The measure, which was launched on May 1, will be in force until November 30.
The measure was taken within the framework of the Employment Promotion Law, which, according to Pérez, “seeks to support departments that are in a difficult situation at the labor level.”
The subsidy will be given for up to 20% of the workforce, that is, in a company of 10 people, for example, the salary of two will be subsidized. And the maximum amount of the subsidy will be $33,789 per month per person hired.
Assuming that a woman is hired with a salary of $40,000, the subsidy would be $32,000, so the company “would only have to put up $8,000,” said the director.
The minimum contract period will be six months, and the subsidy will be given for a maximum of one year.
This economic support will be provided to companies in any industry and commerce sector.
