The La Niña phenomenon will continue until March, they forecast

The General Directorate for the Protection and Conservation of Water Resources of Mades (Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development) announced the report on hydrometeorological projections for the first three months of the year.

“Most of the world climate prediction centers foresee the permanence of «La Niña» conditions until the first quarter of 2023, with a subsequent moderate transition towards neutral conditions”the report states.

This phenomenon is defined as periods of scattered and deficit rains compared to the normal monthly average. This would lead to a risk of drought and a decrease in the hydrometric level of surface waters.

They add that at a general level, unfavorable conditions are expected for the country’s water resources.

The General Directorate for the Protection and Conservation of Mades Water Resources, claims to have based itself on the values ​​of the Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH), Multimodels of the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
