The International Poetry Festival inaugurated in Havana

The 29th edition of the International Poetry Festival of Havana began this Monday with a large program of concerts, readings and tours of communities that will last until May 27, publishes Latin Press (PL).

The event was inaugurated in the morning with the exhibition “Illusions”, by the Italian Eleonora Buselli, at the headquarters of the CubaPoesía Cultural Center in the Casa del Alba Cultural.

In parallel, the program provides for the development of the “World Meeting of Poets in Defense of Humanity” and “Poets before war or the fight for peace”, an effort by the organizers to “turn the city into a benchmark of the genre ”, points out PL.

In his inaugural words, the Cuban poet Alex Pausides defended that the Festival be “in many places at the same time”, because “we all share a taste for poetry, as an expression of achievement, as knowledge.”

“To also give space to the common man to approach it through primary schools, universities, towns, that’s why it is a popular festival,” added the editor and poet.

The agenda promises the collaboration of national and foreign poets, who will pay tribute to the writer Fina García-Marruz in the year of her centenary and to José Martí on the 170th anniversary of his birth.

In the Rubén Martínez Villena room there will be readings in honor of Anton Arrufatrenowned writer and National Literature Award (2000), who died on Sunday in Havana at the age of 87.
