The Municipality of Montevideo (IM) presented a “battery of measures” to boost economic activity, after a meeting with the Center of Retail Storekeepers, Baristas, Self-service and Related of Uruguay (Cambadu), the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of Uruguay and of the gastronomic group, and the authorization of the sale of fractionated products is highlighted so that consumers can acquire smaller amounts of food than those packaged at origin. The fractionation will be valid for 180 days and must be carried out at the time and in front of the final consumer in areas that are conditioned for it. The general requirements for the type of food business and for food handling must be met.
“Proximity food businesses with a low-risk local scope and an area of less than 100 square meters will be enabled for the fractionation,” the IM explained on its website.

Other measures
In the package of measures it was also announced that up to 100% of the payment of the Barometric Rate (article 31, decree No. 32,265) will be subsidized for the concept of authorization of the company, authorization and registration of food to those who have their plant manufacturer in a department of the country that is not Montevideo and have authorization to register the product in the department of origin.
For gastronomic venues, bowling alleys and pubs, the total exoneration of the price will be extended for the placement of chairs and tables -with or without parquet- on sidewalks and roads in front of shops, as well as the sale of drinks until September 30, present year.
In accordance with the lifting of the declaration of health emergency by the national government, the resolutions that establish capacity, distances between tables for restaurants, pubs, bowling alleys and other venues are revoked; and use of mandatory masks, among others.
Thus:
- It becomes 100% of the capacity in closed venues for shows and the control of the vaccination schedule in dances and similar activities is no longer mandatory.
- The closing time for bars, restaurants and the like falls, which is currently set by national decree until 2 am.
- The end time of shows at 5 am is eliminated.
- The use of face masks is no longer mandatory for staff in shops, supermarkets and other public service premises.
- It is no longer mandatory to have gel alcohol available to the public in shops.
- Provisions on furniture distance and interpersonal distance are eliminated.
- In gastronomic spaces, the use of partitions, permanent sanitization, the requirement of gel alcohol available to the public, the use of face masks in food courts, interpersonal distance and assisted service for premises with a system are no longer necessary. self-service, buffet and the like.
