felton, cubanos, apagones

“The holidays are over and the lies begin,” say the Cubans in the face of another breakage of the Felton

Madrid Spain.- Unit 1 of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Power Plant, known as Felton, was once again outside the National Electric System (SEN) this Thursday.

According to the journalist Bernardo Espinosa from his profile on Facebookwas due to a leak in the boiler.

Specialists from the National Load Dispatch explained that it is necessary to comply with the protocol in the cooling period of the thermal unit, to access and determine the location of the failure, Espinosa said.

At 8:30 p.m., the impact in the country due to a lack of generation capacity was 546 MW.

“The system currently operates under complex conditions,” said the journalist.

The Cubans, for whom the blackouts are becoming unsustainable, did not take long to react to Bernardo Espinosa’s publication and denounced that, “coincidentally”, on the 25th and 26th, national holidays for the anniversary of July 26, the blackouts decreased.

“What a coincidence, not even 25, 26, 27. Today, the 28th, when the holidays are over, the lies begin, because you can’t believe anything anymore. And it’s not the journalists’ fault. They publish what they demand,” said Internet user María de los Ángeles González.

Other users complain that in the country’s capital they cut off the electricity service much less frequently than in the rest of the provinces.

“Perhaps if they turned off for Havana, the situation for the province would not be so complex, but hey, they will never understand that,” Luis Alejandro Castañeda Orellana considered.

Also this Thursday, the Cuban Electric Union (UNE) reported that units 4 and 5 of the “10 de Octubre” Thermoelectric Power Plant in Nuevitas, in Camagüey, had faults in the upper thermal structure and leak in the boiler, respectively.

This Monday the directors of the National Electric System said in the official program Round table that Cuba’s energy crisis has no solution in the short or medium term, so Cubans will continue to suffer long blackouts during the coming months, the hottest of the year.

The blackouts on the Island were among the main triggers of the anti-government demonstrations on July 11, 2021. So far this year they have also caused popular protests such as the one that occurred in the University of Camaguey “Ignacio Agramonte”, where the students spent more than ten hours without power.

At midnight on July 14, hundreds of people took to the streets of the municipality of The palaces, Pinar del Río, to demand the restoration of the electrical service.

While on the 22nd of the same month, demonstrations took place in the towns of Jagüey Grande, in the province of Matanzas, Sagua la Grande and Caibarién, in Villa Clara due to the continuous blackouts.
