The national government finalized this Monday the first large debt payment disbursement of the year by paying 1,019 million dollars to the bondholders who entered the last debt swap that took place in 2020, and which allowed the restructuring of more than 99.9% of the external debt with private individuals in Argentina.
In this case, it was the semi-annual payment -there will be another of a similar magnitude in the middle of the year- which was established in the issuance of the new bonds after the restructuring, of which US$ 664 million corresponded to the payment of interests of Global Bonds (foreign law) and US$ 355 million by local law bonds, as confirmed to Télam by official sources.
The operation was evidenced in the reserves of the Central Bank, which closed last Friday at 44,425 million dollars and this Monday at 43,368 million dollars, for which a difference of 1,057 million dollars was seen, explained by these payments and other minimums. changes in the price of BCRA assets.
Argentina complied in August 2020 with the debt restructuring in dollars under international law with private creditors for 68,000 million dollars, considered the second largest in history, after the experience of Greece in 2012.
This operation then enabled Argentina to complete the exchange with private parties in dollars under local law, which allowed a total restructuring -between both operations- of more than 100,000 million dollars of debt with private parties.
The restructuring of debts with creditors under local law and international law allowed Argentina save $48 billionfrom 2021 to 2028, in interest and principal payments, compared to previous schedules, according to private sector estimates.
